Amazon.com Product Description
Offering excellent picture performance, Panasonic's 37-inch VIERA TC-L37C22 LCD HDTV provides 720p high-definition imagery and an improved panel with In Plane Switching (IPS) for an ultra-wide viewing angle and higher moving picture resolution for clear, bright images. This C22 series model also features 24P Playback function for superb imagery from 24-frame movies on DVD and Blu-ray Disc, and an 18,000:1 contrast ratio.

This and other models in the C22 line offer Panasonic's VIERA Image Viewer feature, which enables you to play slideshows of JPEG images stored on SD memory cards, as well as the VIERA Link feature for controlling a variety of compatible components--from Blu-ray Disc players to digital cameras--through a single remote.

Adhering to Panasonic's commitment to the environment, this VIERA model--as well as all 2010 models--features improved power consumption and meets the new, more stringent Energy Star 4.0 requirements.

Key Features

In Plane Switching (IPS): The latest iteration of Panasonics IPS LCD panel features excellent light transmittance and a wide viewing angle. The wide 178-degree viewing angle--both horizontally and vertically--ensures clear images even when viewed from an angle. And the panel backlight's wide transmission aperture enhances the contrast between light and dark, improving motion-image response.

VIERA Image Viewer: View full-HD images with the integrated SD card slot, enabling you to view JPEG photos captured from your digital camera or camcorder on the big screen. Navigate your images via an easy-to-use thumbnail display.

VIERA Link: Allows the interlinked operation of various AV devices--from DVD and Blu-ray Disc players to home theater sound systems to digital cameras and camcorders--using only the VIERA remote control by simply connecting the devices to each other by an HDMI cable (see pop-up illustration).

Panasonic's VIERA C22 series LCD HDTV.

Which Size HDTV is Right for My Room?

HDTV Size chart
With standard-definition TVs, the rule used to be that viewers would feel comfortable watching a set from a distance of 3 to 6 times the screen size in inches. With HDTV, the resolution is so much better that you can sit closer to a larger TV without noticing the pixels. So with HDTVs, the rule tends to be you can sit anywhere from 1.5 to 3 times the screen size (in inches) for the best experience.

If you know the size of the room you have already, where you want to sit, and where your new HDTV should go once you get it, you can figure out the size HDTV you should get.

  • Minimum size = Viewing distance/3
  • Maximum size=Viewing distance/1.5

I bought this TV to watch the world soccer matches in South Africa and it didn't disappoint. It arrived the day before the matches, as promised, and is very clear and easy to view. I highly recommend it, and Amazon.com.

1 out of 5 stars Serious audio problem   July 2, 2010

I've owned this TV for about 2 months -- purchased from a local Video Only. It has a flaw in its HDMI firmware, which causes the audio to become severely garbled after about an hour of viewing. Panasonic acknowledges the problem, but to date, they have not been able to fix it. I downloaded and tried to install the updated firmware from their website, but the install failed. They then sent me an SD card, which also failed to load. My computer had no problem reading the card and copying the firmware update. They then informed me that 30 customers had seen the bogus card read error. Today they sent me a second card, which my TV was also unable to read. The file date on the firmware, which my computer can read perfectly, is two months older than the previous version. Clearly, Panasonic has serious customer support problems.

I received a message from Panasonic customer support on 07/06/2010 telling me that the "card read error" I was receiving meant that I had already installed the firmware update. The agent went on to say that, since I had installed the update, I no longer had the audio problem. I still have the audio problem and after calling the rep a dozen or more times, he has never answered his phone or returned my call.

On 07/14/2010 Panasonic sent me a third SD card, which also did not load. Upon calling back, they told me that this is a known problem with the firmware and my case got escalated to engineering. I was told this same thing two weeks ago and two card sets ago. I have attempted to load FIVE different update files -- two from their websites and three on cards they sent me -- with no success. The problem remains unfixed after ten weeks!

On 07/18/2010 Panasonic sent me an email, telling me that the card should be readable, and asking me to send them the error code I received if it didn't load. I already sent this info over two weeks ago. So, despite the fact that the last CSR I spoke with said the problem was escalated to engineering, I'm still being told that there's no problem with the firmware on the SD card. Insanity is repeating the same behavior and expecting a different result. By that criterion Panasonic's Customer Support folks are crazy as loons.

I will update this review when and if Panasonic fixes this problem.
